The Assessor's Office is responsible for the inventory of all property within the City and the valuation of all taxable property both real property (land and buildings) and personal (tangible). The Office operates under the requirements of the General Property Tax Law which was originally P.A. 206 of 1893. The statutes can be found under MCL 211.1 through MCL 211.157.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Assessor’s Office will be holding it's Assessor’s Review for property owners Feb. 20, 21, 24, 25 from 9 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. at East Lansing City Hall, 410 Abbot Road.
  • Small Taxpayers Personal Property Tax Exemption - Effective for the 2014 assessment year, an exemption from personal property taxes is available to taxpayers if the true cash value of the personal property owned, leased or possessed by the taxpayer (or a related entity) is under $80,000.
  • Property Tax Exemption Available to Disabled Veterans - A newly expanded property tax exemption is available to disabled veterans. To apply for the exemption in East Lansing, applications must be submitted annually.
  • The City of East Lansing offers no-fee, online access for it's Property & Tax Bill Info, providing customers with efficient 24/7 service.
