Financial Assistance
Residents of Ingham, Clinton, or Eaton Counties, with low or moderate income, who are being cared for by an unpaid caregiver, may apply for Respite funds. These funds allow use of a sliding scale, based on income, to determine per-hour charges. Open certification for these allocations is available about every 6 months through the ALFA Office. Funds are made available through Tri-County Aging Consortium, the Michigan Tobacco Settlement, and the Older Americans Act. Individuals may also be added to a waiting list, should these funds become available before the next open certification. In each case, income information should be completed at the time of application. All information is kept confidential.

Transportation
ALFA works closely with area public transportation companies/services to facilitate use by ALFA participants.

1. CATA-Spectran is available for those living in the larger Lansing-East Lansing area. This is a cur-to-curb service and includes Haslett, Okemos, and Holt. The cost of Spectran, if used, is covered by the program fee.
2. CATA-Ingham County Rural Service can be arranged to bring participants all the way in to ALFA in most cases. This includes Williamston, Mason, and out-lying areas. Cost, if used, is covered by the program fee.
3. For Eaton County, EATRAN will bring participants all the way to ALFA if there is a doctors prescription for Adult Day Care Services. Cost, if used, is covered by the program fee.
4. In Clinton County, Clinton Transportation will transport participants directly to ALFA. ALFA will pay for half the cost, the balance billed to families

Health Maintenance
Specialized therapies (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech, etc.) are weighed on an individual basis and may be carried out by the staff nurse or by a qualified therapist under the direction of the participant's attending physician, if appropriate to ALFA's program and in keeping with ALFA's policies governing quality assurance.

All medication, including over-the-counter drugs, must be medically prescribed and taken under direct supervision of a professional staff member. Family members or caregivers prepare medications daily. The ALFA nurse will assist participants to take their medication at scheduled times.
