How to make a compliment or complaint to the ELPD:

About Complaints...
Complaints will be documented and forwarded to the ELPD Administration for review. Administration will review the complaint and the case may be investigated.
When the investigation has been completed, the complaining party will receive a letter from the Chief of Police addressing the findings. Complaints that have been investigated will be completed with one of the following dispositions: 1) Unfounded (the alleged act did not occur), 2) Exonerated (part or all of the alleged act occurred, however, the actions were reasonable, proper and legal), 3) Not Sustained (insufficient information to clearly prove or disprove the allegations)m 4) Sustained (sufficient information to justify a reasonable conclusion that part or all of the alleged act occurred), 5) Policy Review (part or all of the alleged act occurred. The employee?s actions were reasonable and followed current Department policy. However, the policy should be reviewed and may need to be revised).
In the event the allegation(s) may be criminal, the information will be reviewed by the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office and then investigated at their discrection. In addition, the Office of Professional Standards may conduct an independent investigation to determine if any departmental policy and procedures have been violated.
