Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement
Recycling in East Lansing is convenient, free and easy. The City collects recyclables curbside from single family homes, duplexes and multi-family homes with up to 20 units. Recyclables are collected weekly on the same day as refuse collection.
There is no fee to recycle; however, if your household does not have a blue ELROW recycling bin, you will need to purchase one from the Public Works Department for a one-time fee of $5.50.
Items collected curbside include:
- clear and brown glass bottles and jars
- aluminum cans and foil
- tin (steel) cans
- newspaper and inserts
- mixed paper including junk mail
- glossy magazines and catalogs
- #2 HDPE colored plastic bottles milk jugs
- #1 PET clear plastic bottles
Drop-off Recycling
Residents who cannot participate in the curbside collection can take the above recyclables plus corrugated cardboard, brown paper bags, cell phones, household batteries, athletic shoes, fishing line and boxboard (pilot program) to:
