Ingham County residents who need to dispose of common household hazardous items,
such as oil based paints and solvents can take these items to the County's Household
Hazardous Waste and Clean Sweep site. The site is located at the Ingham County Human
Services Building, 5303 South Cedar Street in Lansing. The site is open every Thursday
from 2 to 6 p.m. from April 5 through the end of September.
The County will accept the following:
- pesticides (weed killers, insecticides)
- household batteries and cell phones
- cleaners & polishers
- aerosol containing products (empty cans can be disposed)
- wood preservatives
- asphalt sealer & roofing tar
- automotive products (brake, steering, transmission fluid)
- oil paint & paint products (thinners, mineral spirits, stains)
- photographic chemicals
- flammables (gasoline, lighter fluids, etc.)
- home repair products (glues, caulk, etc.)
- mercury (thermometers, thermostats. Place in a ziplock bag)
- acids & bases (pool chemicals, toilet bowl cleaners)
- fluorescent lights and ballasts
- fuel oil
- small propane tanks (1 pound size)
The County will NOT accept the following:
- Latex Paints (disposal tips)
- explosives
- radioactive materials
- automotive batteries
- empty containers
- business waste
- waste oil and antifreeze
- helium tanks
- 20 pound propane tanks
- Products in 55
gallon drums will not be accepted
