1) Curbside Yard Waste Collection: March 31 through November 24, 2008
The Department of Public Works collects yard waste curbside
on
Mondays (spring through
fall). Residents need to request yard waste pickup by 1) calling and leaving a message at DPW's
24-hour number, 351-4999 or 2) calling 337-9459 during regular business hours or 3) submitting
an e-mail request.
All requests must be received by 7:30 a.m. on Monday for collection
that day.
Yard waste must be contained in $1 City yard waste bags (paper) or bundled with a City yard waste sticker. [learn more]
Yard Waste Guidelines
- Collection does not occur on holidays
- Only organic yard trimmings are collected - please, no plastic, rubbish, or lumber
- Grass clippings, weeds, leaves, plant material, etc. should be contained in paper bags or containers and weigh no more than 40 lbs. Yard waste contained in plastic bags or Easy Carts will not be collected
- Brush may be bundled. Brush bundles should be no more than 4 feet long by 1 foot in diameter and weigh no more than 40 lbs
- Tie brush bundles with rope or twine, no wire please. Individual limbs should be no larger than 4 inches in diameter
- Request for pickup must be received by 7:30 a.m. Monday for pickup that day. A yard waste sticker must be attached to each bundle or container and to each non-City paper bag. City yard waste bags can be purchased at the Department of Public Works office or City hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Bags can also be purchased at L&L Food Center at 6075 N. Hagadorn.

No-Fee Curbside Yard Waste Collection: April 7, 21 and May 5, 2008
Residents have the opportunity to dispose of yard waste for free (advanced phone
request is not required) on the three days listed above. Please remember that yard waste must be at the curb by 7:30 a.m. and may not be contained
in plastic bags or Easy Carts.
There is NO bulk item pickup on these days.
3) Bulk Leaf Collection
Each fall, the Street Division conducts a bulk leaf collection for East
Lansing. During this collection, no bags, stickers or fees are required.
Simply rake your loose leaves, grass clippings and plant material (no brush) between the curb and sidewalk. If there is no curb, rake leaves to within three feet of the road. Please E. NOT rake leaves into the road as they block storm drains. [learn more]
