100” photograph at the kick-off event for the 2007 Centennial Celebration.
Melting Moments Centennial Flavor Challenge Submission Deadline

This is the last day flavor ideas will be collected. Don't miss your chance
to create East Lansing's Centennial Ice Cream Flavor and win a year supply of ice
cream.
East Lansing History Behind Glass
January - December 2007 at East Lansing Hannah Community Center
Visit the second floor of Hannah to enjoy a historic display case. One of the following
four themes will be featured over three-month periods in 2007: local government,
schools/neighborhoods, religion and local businesses.

Melting Moments will serve up the three finalists' flavors for public to taste and
vote on. Come enjoy the free ice cream and help us select East Lansing Centennial

East Lansing Women's Club - A History in Pictures and Words

A good old fashioned history lesson is in store for those who join the East Lansing
Women's Club at this month's Centennial event.
Presented by Linda Pivarnik
"A History in Pictures and Words", will feature a look back at the history of a
club that has remained active in the East Lansing community for more than 100 years.

Dedication of Stonehouse Village Plaque

4 p.m. - at the corner of Bailey Street and E. Grand River Avenue in Downtown East
Lansing
Join East Lansing Centennial Commission Chairperson Liz Schweitzer and former East
Lansing Historical Society President Bob Gianettino for this fun event. This historic
corner once overlooked the wooden plank road to Detroit and now is home to one of
East Lansing's newest landmark, the Stonehouse Village.
Enjoy refreshments and cookies from one of East Lansing's newest businesses, Insomnia
Cookies with Stonehouse Village partners Doug Cron, David Krause, John Liskey and
Terry Oetzel. Then head on down to MAC to join in East Lansing's 100 year birthday
bash.

Enjoy the "tallest cupcake tower" (a Guinness World Record attempt) while listening to 50's

Close to 1,000 community members turned out for the East Lansing Centennial Celebration's
Old Fashioned Band Concert with Fireworks Thursday evening.
Free lemonade and cookies
were enjoyed by all, the Centennial Community Band put on a phenomenal show and
at dusk a 15-minute fireworks display lit up the East Lansing sky. It was the perfect

Civil Rights in East Lansing

As part of the One Book, One Community program, the East Lansing Historical Society
and East Lansing Centennial Commission will present a panel of local individuals
who will recount their personal experiences with Civil Rights issues during the 1960's in East Lansing. The panel members will include Clarence Underwood, Don Coleman,
Charles McMillan and Claudette Nelson. George Brookover will be the moderater.

The Future of a University Community

Join community and university leaders for a thought-provoking discussion regarding
the future possibilities for our university community.
Panelists include East Lansing Mayor Samir Singh, MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon
and President of Michigan Future, Inc. Lou Glazer. President of Public Sector Consultants
Bill Rustem will serve as moderator.

Celebrating Red Cedar Neighborhood's History

The Red Cedar Neighborhood invites you to celebrate East Lansing's 100th birthday.
They will be hosting a history night that will trace the development of the Flowerpot
and Ivanhoe neighborhoods. Come listen to speakers, view exhibits, socialize
with former and current residents, and share your own memories of life in our neighborhood.
