East Lansing City Managers
On July 31, 1944, amendments to East Lansing's Charter took effect. Voters approved
amendments that changed the operation of the city from a Fourth Class City to a
Home Rule City. East Lansing changed from a Mayor/Council to a Council/Manager form
of government. The City now has five council members instead of four that were elected
by vote of the people. They also appoint a City Manager and a City Attorney.
