2012 COMMUNITY SURVEY

During the week of Sept. 10 a local public opinion research firm, Marketing Resource Group, conducted an opinion survey of East Lansing residents on behalf of the City of East Lansing. The local firm contacted a sample of 400 registered East Lansing voters at random by landlines and cell phones to ask questions about City services, communication, neighborhood associations and more.

 

The 2012 survey was an initiative of the East Lansing City Manager’s office and garnered results with a margin of error of +/- 4.86 percent. Results of the brief, 25-question survey will help East Lansing officials gauge the opinions of residents and assist in shaping future City initiatives and priorities.

 

According to the results, 98 percent of registered voters agree that East Lansing is a good place to live and 92 percent of registered voters are satisfied with the overall quality of City services. Those who participated in the survey also identified public safety, the library and parks & recreation facilities as the services they value most.

2008 COMMUNITY SURVEY

The City of East Lansing conducted an opinion survey of East Lansing residents in September 2008 to gauge residents' overall satisfaction with the City and its services. Adaptive Research Systems in East Lansing contacted 600 randomly-selected registered voters via telephone to answer questions about the East Lansing community and the services the City provides. The survey yielded a margin of error of +/- 4 percent.

 

According to the results, 97 percent of registered voters agreed that East Lansing is a good place to live. Respondents cited the intellectual atmosphere surrounding the Michigan State University campus, the family friendly community environment and the attractiveness of East Lansing neighborhoods and the downtown as characteristics they liked most about East Lansing. The survey also demonstrated that 94 percent of respondents are satisfied with the overall quality of services provided by the City of East Lansing.
