East Lansing Police Department

The City of East Lansing is constantly striving to make the community a safe and welcoming environment for its residents and visitors. This is reflected through the hard work and heroic efforts of the East Lansing Police Department (ELPD).

 

ELPD consists of 58 sworn officers, 43 non-sworn personnel, two K9-equipped vehicles and four dogs, 13 marked patrol cars, two semi-marked police vehicles, 10 unmarked vehicles and four motorcycles. ELPD officers undergo extensive annual training, including 40 hours of general training. Specialized units also undergo specialty trainings geared more specifically toward their line of work. Specialized units include the Special Response Team, Canine Team, School Liaison Officer, School Resource Officer, Police Student Alliance Program, Bike Patrol, Conflict Management/Hostage Negotiation Team, Accident Investigation Team, Crime Scene Investigators and Community Policing.
