East Lansing Public Schools

The City of East Lansing’s school district, East Lansing Public Schools (ELPS), offers students an unrivaled educational experience.

ELPS is responsible for the education of approximately 3,400 students, who attend the following schools within the district: William Donley Elementary, Marble Elementary, Pinecrest Elementary, Red Cedar Elementary, Glencairn Elementary, Whitehills Elementary, MacDonald Middle School and East Lansing High School (ELHS).

ELPS has a diversified population with students from more than 50 countries, speaking more than 44 languages. There are 405 total staff members in the district with 228 serving specifically as teachers.

The district’s eight schools have received an extensive array of recognition and awards. ELHS was awarded a Silver Medal by U.S. News and World Report in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. The awards place ELHS in the top 3 percent of high schools across the nation. U.S. News and World Report evaluated factors such as state test performance, disadvantaged students’ progress and the success of college-level course work.

ELPS continues to stand out as one of the top districts in the state because of its curriculum, faculty and close relationship with Michigan State University (MSU). In addition to sponsorship, volunteer work and other collaborations, MSU College of Education interns work at every school within the district.
