EAST LANSING, Mich. — The Rotary Club of East Lansing and its honorary chairperson, MSU Women’s Basketball Coach Suzy Merchant, will announce new plans for the playground at Patriarche Park at a special press event this Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 11:30 a.m. at Reno’s East, 1310 Abbot Road.

The new project is being called “Playground in the Park Re-Imagined.”

In 2011, the Rotary Club of East Lansing announced a special community service project to refurbish the wooden play structure at Patriarche Park in the City of East Lansing. The structure, one of the first of its kind in the area, was originally built in 1997 – a community project spearheaded by the Rotary Club of East Lansing.

The project was scheduled for completion in September of 2011, but was put on hold in response to some concerns about the long-term viability and safety of the structure as it stands. Rotary Club members worked alongside staff with the East Lansing Department of Parks, Recreation & Arts to develop a new plan for the play structure following the original project’s postponement.

This week’s press event will unveil new details of the playground plan from Rotary Club of East Lansing President and East Lansing Department of Parks, Recreation & Arts Director Tim McCaffrey. The press event will also include comments from the “Playground in the Park Re-Imagined” Honorary Chairperson Suzy Merchant, who will discuss plans for involving the community in this new, re-envisioned project.
