EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing Public Library (ELPL), 950 Abbot Road, will offer a number of programs and events to its patrons this February. FEBRUARY SPOTLIGHT A Josh White, Jr. Concert, “The Life and Times of Josh White, Sr.,” will take place at the East Lansing Public Library on Wednesday, Feb. 29 at 7 p.m. Through stories and songs, Josh White, Jr. will take audience members on the journey of his father’s life as a singer, guitarist, songwriter, actor and civil rights activist. There is no need to register for this special event. A Russian Bilingual Storytime will take place on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 2-3 p.m. at the East Lansing Public Library. This program will feature stories in Russian and English, treats and a craft. All ages are welcome. Register by calling the library at (517) 351-2420. A Second Sunday at Dublin Square will take place on Sunday, Feb. 12 from 4-9 p.m. Supporters of the East Lansing Public Library can enjoy food and drink at Dublin Square Irish Pub in downtown East Lansing and 10 percent of what is spent will be donated to the library! An All Around the World Family Fun Night will be hosted on Monday, Feb. 13 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the East Lansing Public Library. This event, hosted by students with the MSU College of Education, is for parents and children, grades K-4. This event is free and no registration is required. The event will include arts and crafts, coloring and other fun activities. An Anime & Manga Drawing Workshop will take place after school for teens on Wednesday, Feb. 15 from 3-5:30 p.m. at the East Lansing Public Library. Hosted by the Michigan State University Anime Club’s Stephanie Zang, this workshop will allow teens to learn how to draw their own characters in the popular Japanese Anime style, while also improving their drawing skills. Registration is not required. These workshops will also take place on March 21 and April 18. A LEGO® Creation Day will take place at the East Lansing Public Library on Sunday, Feb. 26 from 2-4 p.m. Children, ages 4 and up, are invited to use ELPL’s LEGOs to create a masterpiece for display in the library. Speed Friending for Book Lovers will be hosted at the East Lansing Public Library on Monday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. This event will offer a fun way to talk about favorite and least favorite books, while meeting new people! Participants can bring a book and tell other people about it in five-minute segments. This program is for adults, 21 and up. There is no need to register. An English as a Second Language class will be offered every Tuesday from 7-8 p.m. at the East Lansing Public Library began on Jan. 10. This all-ages program will allow patrons to learn and improve their English through fun and interactive activities. Registration is not required. One-on-One Job Help will be offered at the East Lansing Public Library for those seeking a new job. One-on-one help with updating a resume, preparing for an interview and more will be provided. One-on-One Technology Help will be offered at the East Lansing Public Library for those who need a little help using their new e-reader, tablet or other electronic device. Persons eligible for an Educator Card are certified public, private, charter, online and parochial school teachers (K-12) and preschool or daycare center instructors who live or work in East Lansing. Advantages of an Educator Card include borrowing materials for classroom use without using a personal card, $25 in fine forgiveness and more. FEBRUARY PROGRAMS A Practice Your English program will be offered every Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. at the East Lansing Public Library. This all-ages program will allow participants to practice speaking and listening in English in a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. Storytime is hosted at the East Lansing Public Library on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:15 a.m., Tuesdays from 6:30-7:15 p.m. and Fridays from 10:30-11:15 a.m. Stories, rhymes, songs and a craft will be offered to children, ages 2-5. Caregivers of 2-year-olds must stay in the Storytime room. All other caregivers must stay in the library. Registration is not required. Babytime is offered at the East Lansing Public Library on Mondays from 10:30-11 a.m. and Wednesdays from 10:30-11 a.m. This beginning story time is for babies under the age of 2. Each baby must be accompanied by an adult. No older siblings please. Registration is not required. *Babytime will not be held on Feb. 20. After School Programs will be offered on Mondays and Tuesdays at All Saints Episcopal Church and Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at the East Lansing Public Library. The programs will take place from 3-6 p.m. Middle school and high school students are invited to join library staff for after school gaming, outdoor activities, computer access and more. These programs are only offered on school days. All Saints Episcopal Church is located at 800 Abbot Road. HomeWork Help will be offered on Feb. 6, Feb. 13 and Feb. 27 from 5-7 p.m. at the East Lansing Public Library. This free, drop-in help for grades K-8 is provided by the Michigan State University Student Michigan Education Association. Registration is not required. Monday Movie Matinees will be hosted on Feb. 6 and Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. at the East Lansing Public Library. Free popcorn will be provided while supplies last.
