National Night Out, Touch-a-Truck Event to Take Place TONIGHT, Aug. 7

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Due to inclement weather, the City of East Lansing’s 2014 National Night Out, Touch-a-Truck event has been rescheduled for Thursday, Aug. 7 from 6-8 p.m. at the East Lansing Public Library (ELPL), 950 Abbot Road.

This free community event is co-hosted by ELPL, the East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) and the East Lansing Fire Department (ELFD); with support from the East Lansing Department of Public Works (DPW), the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, CATA and H&H Mobil. The event aims to build strong partnerships between public safety officers and the community, while promoting crime prevention and safety awareness.

At this year’s event, a number of vehicles will be on display for children to sit in, explore and touch. Vehicles on display will include an ELPD police car and motorcycle, an ELFD fire truck, DPW recycling and bucket trucks, a CATA bus and trolley and an H&H Mobil tow truck.

There will also be ELPD K-9 officers and dogs, a Pumper & Pals safety show by ELFD, police horses, a bounce house, a dunk tank, picnic food and refreshments.

The library and the library parking lot will close at 5 p.m. to prepare for the event. Those who plan to attend the event can park at All Saints Episcopal Church, the East Lansing Hannah Community Center or on Grove Street.
