EAST LANSING, Mich. — The City of East Lansing is pleased to announce that the MSU Chapter of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity has been awarded a Michigan Recreation & Park Association (MRPA) Community Service Award. The award will be presented to the local fraternity on Wednesday, March 16 at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road. The reception will begin at 5:45 p.m., immediately followed by the awards presentation. Members of the media are welcome to attend. Delta Sigma Phi has raised more than $14,000 for East Lansing youth programs since 2004. These funds have been used to support the City’s youth recreational programming and scholarships. In addition to their philanthropy, members of the local fraternity have generously dedicated their time to help as volunteers at a number of events hosted by the East Lansing Department of Parks, Recreation & Arts, including the Mom/Son Super Hero Dance, Holidays at Hannah and other community events. “The Delta Sigs have been invaluable to our organization,” said East Lansing Parks, Recreation & Arts Program Coordinator Kathleen Miller, who nominated the local chapter for the award. “This exceptional group of students have dedicated countless hours to our events and programs, reaching out to embrace and help their local college community. They are a perfect example of what makes this richly diverse East Lansing-MSU community such a great place to live and work.” The MRPA Community Service Awards recognize individuals and groups throughout Michigan that show outstanding support for public recreation and park programs in their community. The Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity embodies the award’s criteria and will be recognized among other state philanthropists at next week’s reception. Members of the community interested in attending next week’s reception can make a reservation with MRPA. The cost of the event is $25 per person.
