The Information Technology (IT) Department provides internal technical support to City departments so they may serve the residents of East Lansing in the most efficient and cost effective manner. The IS Department is responsible for maintaining the telecommunication and data infrastructure for the entire City. It is also responsible for the computer hardware and software used by the City and assists other City Departments in evaluating, selecting and implementing computer systems. It also sets the standards for City computer systems.
The department supports and maintains computer applications for vital City business functions including financial accounting, payroll, property tax and assessments, police and fire systems, 911 dispatch center, water billing, voter registration, online services and related subsystems. The department is also responsible for telephone support, firewall/network security, technical training and deployment of personal computers, as well as the City’s Web sites and internet access/monitoring for all departments.
