ALBERT AVENUE (May 7 - August 2012)
The project began Monday, May 7 at the intersection of Albert Avenue and Charles Street and will move westward in phases, ending at the intersection of Grove and Linden in early fall.
The construction will take place to help accommodate two new redevelopment projects, as well as future growth in the area. The City will improve the surrounding underground infrastructure, including upgraded sewer and water utilities and new communication conduits installed below Albert Avenue. The area will also benefit from the replacement of streets, curbs and sidewalks. Learn more about the Ann Street redevelopment projects.
Construction Update (as of 5/14/12)
Phase 1 and 2 of the project began at the intersection of Albert Avenue and Charles Street. The intersection of Albert Avenue and Charles Street will remain CLOSED during Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the project. It is anticipated this phase of the project will re-open to local traffic only by May 29, 2012. Each phase will be reopened before the next phase is closed. Additional phases include:
- Intersection of Albert Ave. and M.A.C. Ave.
- Albert Ave. between Grove St. and M.A.C. Ave.
- Grove St. between Albert Ave. and Linden St.
- Alley from Albert Ave. to Linden
- Final Paving

HARRISION AVENUE (May 7-July 2012)
A reconstruction project on Harrison Avenue, between Mt. Hope Road and Trowbridge Road, is expected to begin on May 7, 2012 and is estimated for completion by July 27, 2012.
The roadway will be reconstructed in six phases with traffic detoured using Trowbridge Road, Farm Lane and Mt. Hope Road. The anticipated traffic impacts of this project are significant and motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes. The roadway is expected to be closed throughout the majority of the project’s duration, with traffic lane shifts and intersection closures at other times.

Local traffic will access the area from Mt. Hope Road only and should follow the posted detour route. Motorists trying to access the Amtrak/Greyhound/Indian Trails station should use Service Road from Farm Lane.
The project will include reconstruction of the roadway with intermittent curb replacement, sidewalk improvements, storm water improvements, sanitary sewer repairs, water main improvements and a new asphalt surface.
PARK LAKE ROAD AND BURCHAM DRIVE ROUNDABOUT (June 11 - end of August)
The Ingham County Road Commission will construct a modern roundabout at Park Lake Road and Burcham Drive beginning June 11. Both Park Lake Road and Burcham Drive will be closed to through traffic during the roundabout construction. Learn more.
Detour Routes: The posted detour route for Burcham Drive will follow Hagadorn to Lake Lansing Road to Okemos Road. The detour signing for Park Lake Road will be posted along Grand River Avenue (M-43) to both Hagadorn and Okemos Roads to Lake Lansing Road. Local area traffic can travel on any public road as an alternate route as well.
ANN STREET PLAZA (Fall 2012)
In addition to the Albert Avenue infrastructure work (see above) as part of the Ann Street Plaza redevelopment projects, the final portion of the Ann Street redevelopment projects will be the construction of the redesigned Ann Street Plaza. Ann Street Plaza will be closed for construction in the fall.
The clock tower will remain in its current location on the plaza and several other site amenities will be added, including raised landscape areas, a stage, an outdoor fireplace and interactive musical elements. Parking spaces will be removed from the plaza and 11 new spaces will be created along the street. The goal of the plaza redevelopment is to create a more attractive and utilized public space for residents and visitors.
