Holiday Collections

Holiday Collection Schedule
During the holidays, the City of East Lansing strives to collect refuse and recycling as close to regular collection day as possible. In most cases, when a holiday occurs during the week, only those whose collection day falls on the holiday are affected. In these cases, DPW crews double up on the day following a holiday or in the case when a holiday occurs on a Friday, collection occurs on the following Monday. In some cases, we collect on the holiday (i.e. Veterans Day and the day after Thanksgiving).

No-Fee Holiday Refuse Collection: 2012 Dates TBA

During this time, residents can dispose of extra refuse without the use of a yellow City trash bag. Refuse is collected on residents’ normal collection day only, except where changes are necessary due to the holidays. Yard waste and bulk items are not included. All bags must weigh no more than 40 pounds. The City encourages residents to help keep disposal costs down by recycling their extra corrugated cardboard and boxboard at the City’s drop-off sites.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Each year the City of East Lansing recycles approximately 1,000 live-cut trees. Residents can drop off their trees at a number of parks or recycle curbside. Learn more.
