Streets Division The City of East Lansing has over 21 miles of major streets and 8 miles of state highway trunklines located within the city providing regional and area access to residential and commercial sectors. Over 60 miles of residential and local streets provide access to the City's residential neighborhoods. The Streets Division is responsible for maintaining this street network and provides the following services: street sweeping, street paving, fall leaf removal, snow removal and salting, traffic control and signage, crosswalk maintenance, and pot hole repair. Sewer Division The Sewer Division is responsible for maintaining 700,000 feet of public sewers, manholes, catch basins and drainage gates. The City's sewer collection system is a combination of sanitary sewers, storm sewers and combined sewers. A federally and state mandated Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Control program is nearing completion and is expected to substantially reduce the environmental concerns about pollution in the Red Cedar River. Water Division The Water Division maintains over 400,000 feet of various size water mains and 988 fire hydrants throughout the City and installs, maintains and reads over 8,500 individual water meters.
