The City of East Lansing provides water and sewer utilities for East Lansing residents. To set up a new account, customers will need to present a valid photo ID (driver’s license, passport, MSU ID, etc.) at the Treasury Department in City Hall, 410 Abbot Road.

 

Rental property owners may provide tenant information to the City by utilizing the Account Changeover Authorization form. Learn more.

 

How to Terminate Water Service - To terminate service and provide a forwarding address for your final bill you will need to present a valid photo ID (driver’s license, passport, local university student ID, etc.) at the Treasury Department window in City Hall, 410 Abbot Road. At least one business day advance notice is needed when closing an account.

 

Billing - The City is divided into three billing sections with a different section receiving a bill each month. Bills are mailed out quarterly on the first of the month and are due 20 days after the bill date. Outstanding balances are subject to a 5% late fee if payment in full is not received by the due date.

 

Automatic Bill Payment - Water/sewer payments can be directly withdrawn from checking or savings accounts. To activate automatic bill payment, complete the Automatic Bill Payment Enrollment form (fillable pdf). The City requires a copy of a voided check for checking account withdrawals and a copy of your membership card for savings account withdrawals. The sections are billed as follows:
