When will the Census form arrive in my mailbox and what is the deadline for sending it back?
The Census form arrived in mailboxes in mid March and should have been postmarked by April 1, however; they will be accepted through the end of April. Federal employees with the Census Bureau will start going door-to-door after April 1, so avoid a visit by dropping it in the mail today!
 
Where should I fill out my form?
Forms must be filled out in the community where you lived on April 1.
 
Why should I fill out the form?
First and foremost, it’s the law! The Census is federally mandated. Also, for every person counted, federal funds are brought back into the community over 10 years. Funds are used for things like Pell Grants, public transportation, energy efficiency grants and more.

 

What do I do if I have lost (thrown away) my Census form?
You can visit one of our Questionnaire Assistance Centers, located throughout the MSU-East Lansing community. The Questionnaire Assistance Centers will be operating March 19 - April 19 at the locations and times below:

 

MSU Union (corner of Grand River Avenue and Abbot Road)
Mondays-Wednesdays; 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Thursdays; 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

 

MSU International Center (off of Shaw Lane)
Mondays-Fridays; 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

MSU Library (100 Library Lane)
Sundays and Tuesdays; 1-4 p.m.
Mondays and Wednesdays; 7-10 p.m.

 

East Lansing Hannah Community Center (819 Abbot Road)
Mondays; 8-11 a.m
Tuesdays; 5-9 p.m.
Wednesdays; 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Saturdays; 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

 
I have not yet received a Census form in the mail. How do I receive a new form?
In order to receive a new form, you will need to visit one of our Questionnaire Assistance Centers located throughout the community (see chart above). Two regional Census workers will be at each center, to give you a new form and answer any additional questions you may have. Please note that all information discussed or provided is entirely confidential and cannot be shared with any local agency.

 

What do I do if I have received a second Census form in the mail?

The Census Bureau sent a blanket mailing with a second Census form to several East Lansing neighborhoods after April 1. If you have already received your form and mailed it back, please do not fill out another form. If you have not filled out your Census form, please fill out either the first or second form you received and mail it back the Census Bureau.

 

How are Census forms being distributed on-campus at Michigan State University?
Students that live within residence halls will be receiving their Census forms from their floor mentor and all forms will be returned to the Census Bureau by April 9. Please contact your residence hall mentor if you have not yet received a form.

Students living within on-campus apartments should have received their form in the mail.  If you have not yet received a form, please visit one of our community Questionnaire Assistance Centers.  Remember, Census forms must indicate where you lived on April 1.  For most students, this will be East Lansing.

Yes! By law, the Census Bureau can’t share personal information with anyone. It’s important that every person living in your home is counted.
