Bridge Card & Double Up Food Bucks Benefits

Community members can now enjoy Bridge Card benefits, or Michigan Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) benefits, at the East Lansing Farmer's Market (ELFM) each Sunday.

Bridge Card Benefits

Bridge Card recipients can visit the ELFM information booth to redeem their food benefits. Recipients can determine how much they would like to spend at the market and receive $1 wooden tokens equal to that amount. Shoppers can then use their tokens to purchase eligible food products with participating vendors.

The ELFM received a grant from the Michigan Farmers Markets Food Assistance Partnership through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farmers Market Promotion Program and the Michigan Department of Agriculture Specialty Crop Block Grant to facilitate the process of accepting Bridge Cards as a new method of payment at the market in 2010.

Double Up Food Bucks

Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) is a program that “matches” SNAP/Bridge Card dollars spent at farmers’ markets. Whatever you spend on your Bridge Card, you’ll get a dollar for dollar match of up to $20 in DUFB tokens that you can spend on fresh fruits and vegetables grown in Michigan. So, if you spend $10 on your Bridge Card, you’ll get an extra $10 – FREE.

The DUFB program is an initiative of the Fair Food Network, which encourages healthier eating and provides greater access to fresh fruits and vegetables for low-income Michigan families.
