Current Redevelopment Projects

  • Ann Street Plaza Projects: two redevelopment projects are underway in the heart of the downtown that will enhance retail, restaurant and downtown housing options. View Downtown Construction Updates
  • City Center II: a public-private partnership, mixed-use redevelopment project planned for downtown East Lansing. More than five acres of land have been assembled to support this transformational project.
  • Albert Place Condominiums: a public-private partnership, mixed-use housing development project in downtown East Lansing. A few condominiums are still available for residents that want easy access to MSU and downtown.


Arts and Culture

  • Eli & Edythe Broad Art Museum: MSU's new art museum, designed by world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid, will be a premier venue for international contemporary art when it opens in the fall of 2012.
  • Cultural Economic Development Plan: Learn more about the Cultural Economic Development Plan for Greater Lansing's Urban Centers and the Plan's vision that "Greater Lansing will be the Midwest's most welcoming and supportive destination for creative innovators and entrepreneurs."

Neighborhood Economic Development Initiatives

  • Avondale Square: a City-initiated, owner-occupied residential redevelopment project in the heart of East Lansing
  • Trowbridge Village: a redevelopment plan for the neighborhood commercial center at the southern entrance to Campus.  This area has a strong international influence and is anchored by the Amtrak station and an important locally-owned grocery market.
  • East Village: a City-initiated redevelopment area designated to undergo a dramatic transformation to a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood adjacent to the MSU campus
  • Michigan Avenue Corridor Improvement Authority: a regional initiative to focus on improvements to this important shared corridor.

 

Transportation Projects

  • Amtrak Station Redevelopment into the Greater Lansing Multi-Modal Innovation Station and the hub to a larger transit oriented development of adjacent commercial properties.
  • CATA’s Michigan/Grand River Avenue Transportation Study explores possible major transportation improvements along the Michigan / Grand River Corridor, which connects important employers and destinations in the region, from the Capitol Building to MSU and downtown East Lansing.
  • Transportation Enhancement Grant - The City is seeking to install non-motorized pathways, two pedestrian crosswalks, and sharrow symbols in the outermost traffic lane, along East Grand River Avenue between Collingwood and Hagadorn Road. This work will be undertaken in coordination with roadway work that is slated to be done by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) in 2013.
  • The Non-motorized Transportation Plan, adopted in 2011, will guide future bicycle and pedestrian improvements in the community.

 

Northern Tier Projects

  • Former Blue Cross Blue Shield office site to be redeveloped into two medical office buildings and a banking facility.
  • Trilogy Health Services builds nearly 81,000 square feet of senior living and long term health care facilities.
