EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing Arts Commission is honored to showcase photos from the 2011 Great Lakes Folk Festival in an exhibit titled, “2011 Great Lakes Folk Festival Redux: Photos by Pearl Yee Wong, Raymond Holt and Patrick T. Power,” at a special opening reception on Sunday, Feb. 5 from 1-2 p.m. at the East Lansing Public Art Gallery. The Great Lakes Folk Festival, which takes place in August, showcases the traditional cultural treasures of the nation's Upper Midwest and a sampling of the best of traditional artists from around the country and the world. “The festival encourages cross-cultural understanding of our diverse society through the presentation of musicians, dancers, cooks, storytellers and craftspeople whose traditions are rooted in their communities,” says GLFF Founding Director C. Kurt Dewhurst. The GLFF photo exhibit will be displayed Feb. 5 through Feb. 29 at the East Lansing Public Art Gallery, located on the second floor of the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road. The reception is free to the public and a light snack will be provided. The gallery can be visited anytime during regular hours: Monday-Friday from 6 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. The East Lansing Public Art Gallery supports visual arts in the community by presenting exhibitions that introduce new cultural ideas and provide personal experience with visual art in a meaningful way. ###
