EAST LANSING, Mich. – The suspect tied to two shootings that took place in Lansing and East Lansing today, May 12 has been taken into custody by police at a residence in the 1800 block of Coolidge Road, East Lansing.

The apprehended suspect is believed to be involved in both shootings. The “secure in place” order for the East Lansing community has been lifted.

The East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) and Lansing Police Department (LPD) worked together to arrest the suspect, with support from Michigan State University Police, Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, Meridian Township Police Department, the Michigan State Police and the Violent Crime Initiative (VCI).

ELPD and LPD detectives are currently working cooperatively and diligently on investigating the sequence of events that led up to both crimes. Both shootings are being investigated as homicides.

At approximately 11:07 a.m. LPD was dispatched to a shooting inside a business (Rite Aid) in the 3100 block of E. Saginaw. Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased store employee with apparent gunshot wound. Police learned the suspect fled on foot after the shooting. While on scene, LPD learned of second shooting that took place in the 1800 block of Coolidge Road in the City of East Lansing.
