Pack Up, Pitch In

Thursday, May 6 and Friday, May 7, 2010

10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Michigan State University students living off campus can lighten their loads during spring move-out with the off-campus expansion of MSU's Pack Up, Pitch In recycling program. A recycling drop-off site will be available to students moving out of East Lansing neighborhoods for the summer in the overflow parking lot to the north of the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road.

Although most items will be collected free of charge, a $7.50 collection fee will be applied to furniture in poor condition (half of the curbside collection cost).

Items That Can be Recycled or Donated for Reuse:

  • clothing
  • shoes
  • non-perishable food
  • carpet
  • electronic waste
  • sofas
  • other furniture
  • mattresses
  • blankets
  • pillows
  • household items
  • kitchenware
  • regularly collected recyclables
  • other products

Participating students will enhance the City’s many efforts to protect the environment with this “Go Green” recycling initiative. Students will also lend a hand to local charities in the mid-Michigan area, which will receive many of the donated items for reuse. In addition, students will do away with unwanted items, thus simplifying their spring move-out!

Volunteers

Volunteers will be on hand at the ELHCC checkpoint both days of the off-campus event to help unload vehicles and check IDs. MSU students will be required to show their school IDs to participate in the program. This is a rain-or-shine event. Call (517) 337-9459 for more information.
