Conditional rezoning is a relatively new zoning and land use tool, which empowers communities to rezone land for a project based on an owner’s offer to restrict the zoning use on a property as to make a project more acceptable for rezoning.
A series of public meetings have been held to review and discuss the ordinance. The East Lansing Planning Commission appointed a Conditional Rezoning Subcommittee to review the proposed ordinance from April to August 2011. Upon their recommendation, the Planning Commission held a public hearing on Oct. 12, 2011. At the public hearing, City of East Lansing Attorney Dennis McGinty was on hand to answer questions posed by community members and the Planning Commission.
East Lansing City Council approved the Ordinance 1252 on March 20, 2012 after a public hearing and several work sessions.
