have completed the Liberty Hyde Bailey Center project, 300 Bailey St.
Over the construction period, the historic 1922 elementary school was adapted to include 30 apartment units (25 affordable units for income-qualified households and five market rate units) for area seniors (55+), 9,000 square feet of low-traffic commercial/daycare space and office space for CAHP. The existing gym was renovated and is being used as a community space that is open to the public. It includes 10 hours per month for performance art programming in fulfillment of the City of East Lansing’s Percent for Art Ordinance.
In addition to renovating the front part of the existing building, the back addition was torn down and a three-story new addition has been built. The project included energy efficiency and green design features.
