The Engineering Division is responsible for the design, construction and inspection of public infrastructure projects such as roadways, sidewalks, sanitary sewers, storm drainage and water distribution systems. In addition, the division assists with the development of street and sidewalk repair programs and provides engineering services to other City departments.
Engineering responds to resident and neighborhood concerns related to traffic and pedestrian safety and serves as the staff resource to the Transportation Commission. It performs traffic studies for the Transportation Commission which provides valuable information used to enhance both vehicular and pedestrian traffic flow throughout the City.
In cooperation with the Planning and Community Development Department, the Engineering Division reviews plans for private development projects. Site plans and construction sites are checked for compliance with City construction standards and other regulatory agency requirements. It also enforces the state soil erosion and sedimentation control regulations for both public and private construction projects.
