A City Tree Issue/Inspection Request Form should be filled out for non-emergency tree problems, such as dead tree removal or routine trimming. For more urgent tree issues during regular City business hours, call the Department of Public Works at (517) 337-9459 or the East Lansing Police Department's 24/7 non-emergency phone number at (517) 351-4220 for after-hours issues. The City or their designee will inspect the tree, determine necessary maintenance (if any) and will schedule any necessary work. The resident will be notified of the results of the inspections.
The City prioritizes all work based on risk. For the safety of the public, the City will perform work on all extreme and high-risk trees before addressing lower-risk trees, as low-risk trees are unlikely to cause immediate, severe damage to the public or property.
