Refuse/Trash Collection

The City of East Lansing provides refuse collection for single family households, duplexes and households with one to four units.

Where do I dispose of refuse/trash?

• The City offers weekly curbside trash removal.
• Item collection is also available curbside.
• Granger Waste Services accepts self-haul disposal of a variety of items, from household trash to bulk items.

When do I dispose of refuse/trash?

• Refuse collection takes place on a weekly basis.
• Recycling/Refuse Collection Schedule Maps (PDF) - Learn which day curbside trash collection occurs where you live.
• Bulk Item Collection - Bulk item collection occurs on Mondays (excluding holidays), but must be scheduled with DPW.

How do I dispose of my refuse/trash?

• Purchase a new or replacement trash bin here. 
• Refuse should be placed at the curb by 7:30 a.m. on your collection day, but no earlier than 8 p.m. the night before.
• Extra Trash Collection - If you require extra volume of trash disposal than provided by the trash bin, purchase yellow bags from the City. Excess trash can be placed in bags for curbside pickup for regular collection.
• Bulk Item Online Collection Request Form - Submit a request for bulk item pickup. 
• Items containing Freon can be collected if a Hazardous Waste Sticker is purchased and placed on the item.
