Redevelopment of the Amtrak Train Station
For more than five years, the City of East Lansing, together with its longstanding regional partners, has been exploring ways to transform the Amtrak Train Station building and site into a modern multimodal transportation center. The nine-acre parcel is located at the intersection of two rail lines, adjacent to US 127 and on the edge of Michigan State University’s campus centrally located within the Lansing/East Lansing region.
A number of regional partners are seeking to demolish the existing train station and build a multimodal transit center, which will serve as a transportation hub for the region coordinating Amtrak passenger rail, regional and inter-city bus service, CATA, taxi, bicycle and pedestrian activity. The City of East Lansing, Michigan State University, Capital Area transportation Authority and the Michigan Department of Transportation are currently working on planning, creating conceptual designs and securing funds for the proposed multimodal transportation center.
