Griselda, a witch, tells Rumpelstiltskin that in order to become
the most powerful force in the kingdom, he must possess a
child of royal birth. Rumpelstiltskin spreads the word that
Laura, the miller’s daughter, can weave straw into gold. Since
the kingdom is bankrupt, she is whisked away to spin gold. She
delivers gold with Rumpelstiltskin’s help, but in return she must
give him her first born child. When she marries the prince, and
produces an heir to the throne, she has twenty-four hours to
guess the wizard’s name, or lose her child forever.

Where do the twelve princesses disappear to each night, and
why do they wear out their dancing slippers by morning? To
find out, the king solicits the help of ten princes, who each try
and fail. Finally, a young soldier (with the aid of a cloak which
makes him invisible), follows the princesses to a mysterious
underground kingdom where they dance the night away
under a hypnotic spell. The soldier must expose the evil prime
minister who is plotting to take over the kingdom in order to
save them all.
