[ARCHIVED] Removal of Protected Bike Path to Cause Bogue Street Lane Closures Next Monday, Dec. 16

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The Bogue Street protected bike path pilot project is coming to an end this week, with plans to remove the lane markers, signage and concrete bollards next Monday, Dec. 16 between the hours of 5 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Both southbound lanes on Bogue Street, between Grand River Avenue and the Eli Broad College of Business, and the Auditorium Road intersection at Bogue Street will be closed to traffic to accommodate the removal of the path. During the closures, traffic on Grand River Avenue will be detoured eastbound to Hagadorn Road and westbound to Farm Lane.

The Bogue Street protected bicycle path pilot project was the result of a collaboration between Michigan State University and the City of East Lansing to study the use of a protected bike path in the local community and determine whether non-motorized transportation was improved along the busy Bogue Street corridor. Originally, the pilot was expected to run through Oct. 31, but it was extended to the end of the fall semester in order to collect more data about usage and safety. The data gathered will be used to determine whether permanent protected bike paths should be installed in the East Lansing-MSU community.
