EAST LANSING, Mich. – At approximately 12:48 a.m. on Saturday, March 28 a crowd of an estimated 500 people gathered in the 1000 block of Water’s Edge shortly after the conclusion of the MSU Men’s Basketball Sweet 16 game.
Soon after the crowd gathered a fire was started in the middle of the roadway. Individuals within the crowd also began to throw glass bottles into the air, endangering others in the area.
After donning protective gear, officers were able to enter the crowd and take three individuals into custody for disorderly conduct violations. These violations consisted of unlawfully remaining within 300 feet of an open fire. Upon making these arrests, the crowd immediately began to disperse. Officers were able to gain control over the situation within 15 minutes of the fire starting, which in turn eliminated any escalation of the disturbance. No chemical crowd management devices were utilized during this incident.
The individuals arrested are described as a 20-year-old male from Livonia, a 19-year-old male from Plymouth and a 19-year-old male from Marquette.
