Community Invited to Watch Livestream of 2020 Crystal Awards

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Community members are invited to watch a livestream of the 2020 Crystal Awards on Wednesday, July 29 at 5 p.m. on the City of East Lansing’s Facebook and YouTube pages: and

The Crystal Awards program is hosted annually by the East Lansing City Council and serves to honor individuals, businesses, professionals, nonprofits and community groups that have made an outstanding contribution to community life in East Lansing. While the in-person community reception that typically takes place in April was postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis, the event has been re-envisioned to include a small, outdoor, physically distanced ceremony for this year’s recipients (masks required), which will be livestreamed for community members to view. This year, four recipients – nominated by community members and chosen by a community selection committee – will be honored for their selfless efforts to enhance the East Lansing community.

“While the 2020 Crystal Awards will look a little different, we wanted to find a way to still be able to honor this year’s amazing recipients,” said Community Events Assistant Karla Forrest-Hewitt. “We hope community members will join us in honoring them by tuning in to the livestream on Wednesday, July 29.”

Photos and bios will be released to the media following the event. Visit to learn more about the Crystal Awards.
