[ARCHIVED] East Lansing’s Yard Waste Collection Program to Begin Monday, April 6

EAST LANSING, Mich. – East Lansing residents are reminded that the City’s curbside yard waste collection will begin Monday, April 6 and will run through the end of November. Spring no-fee collection days will be offered May 4 and May 18.

Yard waste includes leaves, plant materials, grass clippings and brush/limbs. There are three convenient options to contain yard waste, including:

-City paper yard waste bags (bags must weigh no more than 40 pounds).
-Rigid plastic container (no larger than 32 gallons) or paper bag with City yard waste sticker (do not use Easy Carts or plastic bags to dispose of yard waste).-Bundled (with string or twine) with a City yard waste sticker. Bundles may not be more than four feet long and one foot in diameter and must weigh no more than 40 pounds. Individual limbs must be four inches in diameter or less.

City bags and stickers can be purchased at various locations throughout East Lansing, including, but not limited to: the East Lansing Department of Public Works (DPW), 1800 E. State Road, and East Lansing City Hall, 410 Abbot Road.

Yard waste collection takes place on Mondays (excluding holidays) and advanced collection requests are required. Residents can visit www.cityofeastlansing.com/collectionrequest or call DPW at (517) 337-9459 (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.) to request a collection. Online requests must be made by 7:30 a.m. on the Monday of collection and phone requests must be made by 5 p.m. on the Friday prior to the Monday collection. Yard waste may be placed at the curb after 8 p.m. the day before collection or no later than 7:30 a.m. the day of collection. Prior to that, it should be stored in a dry location.

Residents can dispose of yard waste for free on Monday, May 4 and Monday, May 18. City yard waste bags/stickers are not required, but items must still be contained within some type of paper yard waste bag/rigid plastic container or bundled and placed at the curb by 7:30 a.m. Advanced collection requests are not required. All other guidelines apply.
