[ARCHIVED] Simple Recycling to Make Daily Visits to Target Off-Campus Neighborhoods During Student Spring Move

EAST LANSING, Mich. – In an effort to keep neighborhoods clean and increase recycling volumes during student spring move-out, Simple Recycling trucks will be making daily weekday visits to a number of off-campus East Lansing neighborhoods (view map)May 4-May 22.

Simple Recycling offers FREE curbside collection of clothing/textiles and other household items with the use of a FREE Simple Recycling bag and/or sticker. Simple Recycling bags/stickers can be picked up at East Lansing City Hall, 410 Abbot Road; the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road; and the East Lansing Department of Public Works, 1800 E. State Road. The bags and stickers have also been provided to a number of property managers for distribution to tenants and can be mailed to a home upon request at http://simplerecycling.com/supplies/.

Simple Recycling collects the following items: clothing (in good/usable and poor/unusable condition), jewelry, shoes, purses, hats, toys, pictures, mirrors, blankets, drapes/curtains, pillows, rags, sewing scraps, sleeping bags, small furniture, small appliances, irons, radios, TV’s, lamps, hairdryers, tools, toasters, microwaves, coffee makers, computers/electronics, silverware, dishes, pots/pans and glasses.

Students can also make donations to a number of local charities: onlinehttp://www.cityofeastlansing.com/306/Furniture. The Simple Recycling program is not meant to replace donations to charities and nonprofits, but is rather aimed at providing an additional option. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that 85 percent of household goods that could be recycled or reused end up in a landfill. Simple Recycling strives to reduce that percentage by providing an easy, free way for community members to recycle household items.
