[ARCHIVED] Lansing, East Lansing Announce 2015 Mayors’ Ramadan Unity Dinner Essay Contest

EAST LANSING, Mich. – College students and college-bound graduating high school seniors are invited to participate in the 2015 Mayors’ Ramadan Unity Dinner Essay Contest, hosted by Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero and East Lansing Mayor Nathan Triplett.

The theme of the contest is “Hope, Not Hunger” and the essay prizes include $500 for 1st place, $250 for 2nd place and $100 for 3rd place.

Submitted essays should help bring awareness to the plight of hunger and promote a better understanding of how communities can help feed those that experience hunger and impart hope. Essays (one entry per person) should be 250 to 500 words and must be written in English. Essays will be judged on clarity, reflective thinking, grammar/spelling and overall effectiveness. View additional guidelines and print the entry form.

Essays must be submitted to www.facebook.com/ramadanunitydinner with the entry form by Thursday, Aug. 27 at 5 p.m. for consideration. Graduating high school seniors must also submit a college acceptance letter and college students must also submit a current college transcript. Winners will be notified by Tuesday, Sept. 1 and will be invited to attend the Mayors’ Ramadan Unity Dinner on Friday, Sept. 18 at The Lansing Center.
