EAST LANSING, Mich. — Media and community members are invited to attend a check presentation event for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission of Mid-Michigan (MLK Commission) on Friday, Jan. 13 at 10 a.m. at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road.
During the special event, Cinnaire will present the MLK Commission with a $50,000 check to support the Commission’s competitive scholarship program. Other major donors that will be presenting checks include Dean Transportation, Case Credit Union, Jackson®, MacDonald-Garber Broadcasting, MSU Federal Credit Union, Lake Trust Credit Union and LAFCU.
The MLK Commission’s signature event is the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Celebration. This year the event will take place on Monday, Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Lansing Center, 333 E. Michigan Ave. The keynote speaker will be pioneering civil rights attorney Fred Gray.
The MLK Commission is a non-profit, elected group of volunteers dedicated to preserving the legacy and teachings of Dr. King. Among the Commission’s accomplishments, the MLK Commission annually provides scholarships to graduating seniors in the tri-counties, hosts essay contests for middle school and high school students and financially supports a variety of human service agencies that meet critical community needs.
