[ARCHIVED] City of East Lansing Presents Live Music, Outdoor Film and Superhero Science the week of July 20

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The City of East Lansing Community Events program will offer audiences an action-packed week of events, including storytelling, an outdoor film and lots of live music. All events are FREE!

Play in the Park
Play in the Park, an interactive children’s entertainment series, will continue Tuesday, July 21 and continue every Tuesday at 7 p.m. through July 28 in Valley Court Park, 280 Valley Court Park.

A special Superhero Science program will take place on Tuesday, July 21 at 7 p.m. Experience the science of superheroes from Michigan Science Center’s Traveling Science program. Learn how superheroes use energy, forces, electricity and magnetism to save the world.

Play in the Park will also feature a family concert with Guy Louis Summer on July 28.

Moonlight Film Series
The Moonlight Film Series, an outdoor film series, will take place on Thursday, July 23 and continue every Thursday through Aug. 13 in Valley Court Park, 280 Valley Court. The series takes place at 9:30 p.m. in July and 9 p.m. in August. Bring a blanket, sleeping bag or lawn chair and enjoy a night under the stars. Live music begins one hour prior to the film.

“Big Hero 6” (PG) will be shown on Thursday, July 23 at 9:30 p.m. Robotics prodigy Hiro lives in the city of San Fransokyo. Next to his older brother, Tadashi, Hiro's closest companion is Baymax, a robot whose sole purpose is to take care of people. When a devastating turn of events throws Hiro into the middle of a dangerous plot, he transforms Baymax and his other friends. The Further Adventures of Fat Boy & Jive Turkey will perform prior to the film at 8:30 p.m.

The Moonlight Film Festival will also feature Ernest and Celestine (NR) on July 30, Cinderella (PG) on August 6, Pitch Perfect (PG-13 edited) on August 13. Films are at 9:30 p.m. in July and 9 p.m. in August.

Summer Concert Series
The Summer Concert Series, featuring six weekends of live music, will continue on Fridays and Saturdays through Aug. 1 in downtown East Lansing. The music series takes place from 7-9 p.m. in Ann Street Plaza. The concerts will be canceled in the event of rain. Bring a lawn chair and dancing shoes!

Dragspel will perform on Friday, July 24 from 7-9 p.m. in Ann Street Plaza. Dragspel will bring a heaping helping of Irish rock (The Pogues, Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly) to downtown East Lansing. The lineup features Mike Lynch on accordion and Rob Klajda on electric guitar & banjo.

Deacon Earl & The Congregation will perform on Saturday, July 25 from 7-9 p.m. in Ann Street Plaza. The band consists of Lansing native and front man Deacon Earl Darnell (guitar, vocals, bass, ukulele), Ohio's Roger "Kidd Cincinatti" Gentry on harmonica and vocals and Mississippi-native Tyler Jenson on drums and bass. The band plays a blend of Mississippi Hills and Delta blues, as well as Piedmont styles. You will also hear traces of vintage country and honky-tonk as well as reggae, folk and their signature Icy Waters blues.

The 2015 lineup will also feature Cuatro Sur (Friday, July 31) and Greg Nagy (Saturday, Aug. 1).
