[ARCHIVED] DMB Announces Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Velvet A Candy Store

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing Downtown Management Board (DMB) is pleased to announce that Velvet A Candy Store will be hosting its official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. at its downtown East Lansing storefront, 507 E. Grand River Ave.

Velvet is a new, family-owned ice cream parlor and candy shop in downtown East Lansing featuring a variety of flavors of homemade ice cream and fudge. The new business also serves up everything from homemade caramel corn to a variety of different kinds of candy, caramel apples, coffee, chocolate and more.

The store is scheduled to be open seven days a week, with the following business hours: Monday-Friday, 11:00 a.m.-10:30 p.m.; Saturday, 11:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.; and Sunday, noon-10 p.m.

“We are so pleased to be part of the East Lansing business community,” said Trisha Berakovich, who co-owns Velvet with her husband, Erik – an alumnus of MSU. “We have received such a warm welcome from our neighbor businesses and members of the community.”

“We would like to welcome Velvet to downtown East Lansing and we wish them great success,” said DMB Coordinator Amy Schlusler. “This new business offers a wide variety of delectable treats for patrons of our downtown to enjoy.”

East Lansing Mayor Nathan Triplett and Velvet business owners Erik and Trisha Berakovich will say a few words at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Free samples of fudge and ice cream will also be served. Members of the media and public are welcome to attend.
