EAST LANSING, Mich. — Twenty-five MSU students groups will be partnering with 25 downtown East Lansing businesses next week for the inaugural Paint the Aves competition during MSU Homecoming Week.
Paint the Aves is a friendly window painting competition in which participating MSU student groups will paint participating downtown business windows with this year’s MSU Homecoming theme in mind: “Spartans Take the World Stage.” Student teams will be responsible for developing their window design and can paint their window anytime between Monday, Sept. 28 at 8 a.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 5 p.m. On the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 29, the window paintings will be judged by a five-member group consisting of representatives from the City of East Lansing and MSU. Community members can also vote for their favorite window painting on e-Town Hall, www.cityofeastlansing.com/etownhall, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 30 at noon through Friday, Oct. 2 at noon.
Winning student groups will receive downtown East Lansing gift cards in the amount of $300 for 1st Place, $150 for 2nd Place and $100 for 3rd Place. A special People’s Choice prize will also be awarded to the team that garners the most votes on e-Town Hall. The winners will be announced at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2 in Ann Street Plaza. Members of the media and public are welcome to attend.
The MSU Homecoming Committee and the East Lansing Downtown Management Board are co-hosting this fun, new MSU Homecoming activity. The paintings will remain on the windows through Sunday, Oct. 4. Community members are encouraged to come downtown and check them out throughout MSU Homecoming Week.
