EAST LANSING, Mich. — East Lansing residents are reminded that there are three ways to dispose of yard waste this fall: regular curbside yard waste collection, no-fee yard waste collection and fall bulk leaf collection.

Regular curbside yard waste collection runs through Nov. 23 on Mondays (excluding holidays). Advanced requests and City bag/stickers are required. Residents can visit www.cityofeastlansing.com/collectionrequest or call the East Lansing Department of Public Works at (517) 337-9459 to make a request. Online requests must be made by 7 a.m. on the Monday of collection and phone requests must be made by 5 p.m. on the Friday prior to the Monday collection. Yard waste may be placed at the curb after 8 p.m. the day before collection or no later than 7:30 a.m. on the day of collection. Prior to that, it should be stored in a dry location.

There are three ways to contain yard waste: in a City paper yard waste bag, in a rigid 32-gallon plastic container or paper bag with a City yard waste sticker attached (please do not use Easy Carts, recycling carts or plastic bags) or bundled (with string or twine) with a City yard waste sticker attached. Bags must weigh no more than 40 pounds and bundles must be no more than four feet long and one foot in diameter and weigh no more than 40 pounds. Visit www.cityofeastlansing.com/yardwaste for a list of locations where City bags/stickers can be purchased.

No-fee curbside yard waste collection days will take place on Oct. 12 and Oct. 26. On these days, advanced requests and City bags/stickers are not required. Yard waste still must be contained in a paper yard waste bag/rigid plastic container or bundled and placed at the curb by 7:30 a.m. Weight and size guidelines (see above) still apply.

Fall bulk leaf collection will be offered the weeks of Oct. 12, Oct. 26 and Nov. 9 on the City’s west side and the weeks of Oct. 19, Nov. 2 and Nov. 16 on the City’s east side. The west side includes the west City limits at Coolidge and West roads to Abbot Road. The east side includes the east City limits at Park Lake Road to Abbot Road. Loose yard waste (excludes brush/limbs) can be raked to the curb for free collection.
