EAST LANSING, Mich. — The City of East Lansing and Simpson Strong-Tie are co-sponsoring a Building Code Workshop that will take place at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road, on Tuesday Nov. 3 from 8 a.m.-noon.
There is no cost for the workshop, but registration is required. To register, email Christian Hecker at checker@cityofeastlansing.com. Registrants are asked to provide their name, phone number and company (if applicable).
This workshop is designed for residential designers, builders, architects, engineers, building officials/inspectors and plan reviewers. The workshop will review the bracing provisions of the 2015 International Residential Code and discuss the most practical methods to use. Upon completion of the workshop, attendees will have a clear understanding of the building code requirements and available options to meet them. The workshop will incorporate design examples and assembly demonstrations of innovative new bracing solutions. Special attention will be given to garage fronts, stacked narrow bracing panels and two-story great room walls. Simpson Strong-Tie engineers will be presenting code compliant solutions that will enable more efficient designs while maintaining structural safety.
Instructors of this workshop will include Simpson Strong-Tie’s David Finkenbinder and Jerry Tuggle. Finkenbinder joined Simpson Strong-Tie in 2007 as a branch design engineer, providing support to 24 states through the Northeast, Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions of the U.S. Upon gaining licensure as a professional engineer in the state of Ohio in 2011, he was promoted to the role of branch engineer. He is a member of the Structural Engineers Association of Ohio. Tuggle joined Simpson Strong-Tie in 1991 as a Technical Sales Representative. As Simpson added product lines such as Anchoring Systems, Specialty Fastening Systems and Lateral Systems, Tuggle’s position developed into the territory manager role it is today. In addition to assisting with the development of sales opportunities in Michigan, Tuggle has trained architects, building inspectors, structural engineers and contractors on the correct specification and usage of Simpson products.
