EAST LANSING, Mich. — Crews are moving forward with the extension of fall bulk collection on the City's west side (residences west of Abbot Road) this week, Nov. 23-25, as scheduled; however, collection will be limited to large bulk piles of leaves.
Fine cleanup (blowing and sweeping) is not possible due to the cold temperatures and snow/ice.
Collection was extended on the west side due to the late leaf drop and the fact that the program started on the west side. There were enough leaves still on the trees during the final regularly scheduled week of collection on the west side (a week earlier than the east side), which led to the decision to extend the service. If collection had started on the east side, the extension would have been on the east side.
With that being said, East Lansing Department of Public Works (DPW) crews will make every attempt to go back into individual areas of the City after the published dates to clean up existing piles as time and weather permits. No new piles should be raked to the curb.
