EAST LANSING, Mich. – Due to the weather conditions that could make travel extremely hazardous later today, City of East Lansing facilities will close at noon today, Dec. 28 to allow city employees to get home safely before road conditions deteriorate.
These closures include East Lansing City Hall, the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, Prime Time Seniors' Program, 54B District Court, East Lansing Public Library (closed through Jan. 10 to prepare for renovations) and the Department of Public Works. All City of East Lansing facilities will open on Tuesday, Dec. 29 for regular business.
The City of East Lansing will have snow/ice removal crews on hand throughout the day and night to address winter road conditions that may develop. Community members are advised to plan accordingly and limit travel if road conditions become dangerous.
The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) is aware of the forecast and has additional line and tree crews on standby to quickly restore power should outages occur. BWL customers can report power outages by calling 877-295-5001, visiting the BWL Outage Center at www.lbwl.com/outagecenter, through the BWL Outage Center mobile app or by texting "out" or "outage" to 898295 or txtbwl. Consumers Energy customers can report a power outage at https://new.consumersenergy.com/outages/outage-center. To report a downed power line, call 800-477-5050.
In the event of downed power lines, stay at least 25 feet away.
The City of East Lansing will be monitoring conditions and will work in coordination with the City of Lansing and BWL should activation of an Emergency Operations Center become necessary.
