[ARCHIVED] Special Check Presentation Ceremony for MLK Commission to Take Place Jan. 15

EAST LANSING, Mich. — A special check presentation for the Greater Lansing Area Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission will take place Friday, Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road.

MacDonald Broadcasting Company will be presenting a $50,000 check and Cinnaire will be presenting a $35,000 check to the MLK Commission. Additionally, Michigan State University Federal Credit Union, Jackson National Life and Sparrow Health Systems/Physicians Health Plan (PHP) will each be presenting a $10,000 check and AT&T will present a 9,000 check. All members of the media are encouraged to attend.

The funding will help support the MLK Commission, which works each year to support equality, diversity and social justice in the Greater Lansing community. Among its many accomplishments, the MLK Commission annually provides scholarships to graduating seniors, hosts essay contests for local middle school students and helps support a variety of community agencies.

The MLK Commission also hosts the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Luncheon each year in tribute to the inspiring civil rights leader. This year’s luncheon will take place on Monday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. at the Lansing Center, 333 E. Michigan Ave. Mark McDaniel will host this year’s luncheon and Ambassador Andrew Young Jr. is this year’s keynote speaker.
