EAST LANSING, Mich. – Two Uber drivers have been arrested and arraigned in connection with the East Lansing Police Department’s investigation into two reports of Criminal Sexual Conduct (CSC) involving rideshare service drivers.
On March 11, Uber driver Hassan Ibrahim turned himself in on one count of CSC in the fourth degree. A warrant for his arrest had been issued by the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office stemming from an incident that occurred in East Lansing on Feb. 14. Ibrahim was arraigned in the East Lansing 54B District Court by Judge Richard Ball and was given a $5,000 cash/surety bond.
On March 15, Uber driver Salim Salem turned himself in on two counts of CSC in the fourth degree. A warrant for his arrest had been issued by the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office stemming from an incident that occurred in East Lansing on Jan. 16. Due to the unavailability of a 54B District Court judge at the time of his arraignment, Salem was arraigned by 55th District Court Magistrate Mark Blumer and was given a $5,000 cash/surety bond with a condition that he not work as an Uber driver or taxi/cab driver in the future.
Uber has been notified of both arrests. It is unknown what action the company has taken with these drivers.
