EAST LANSING, Mich. – To ensure that adequate curbside recycling services are available during student move-out, the City of East Lansing will be offering an extra recycling day on Monday, May 9 in areas of the community with high student rental turnover.
Any community member, whether they are a student or year-round resident, living in the areas identified on this online map are invited to put their recycling cart out on Monday, May 9 in addition to their regular collection day. Collection services will only be provided to those carts containing acceptable materials. Community members can find a list of what can be recycled curbside at http://www.cityofeastlansing.com/1665/Curbside-Recycling-Guide.
Simple Recycling will also offer an extra collection day in the same target areas on Monday, May 9. Simple Recycling offers free collection of clothing, textiles and other household items. View a complete list of items here: http://simplerecycling.com/curbside-clothing-recycling/residents/. Extra Simple Recycling bags and stickers can be obtained for free from East Lansing City Hall, 410 Abbot Road; the East Lansing Department of Public Works, 1800 E. State Road; and the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road.
“We believe this extra collection day will help to reduce trash overflow and litter in these areas, while providing students with extra opportunities to recycle as they move out of their homes for the summer,” said East Lansing Environmental Administrator Cathy DeShambo.
